LAND BOARD.
The weekly meeting of the Land Board held on Wednesday was attended by Messrs H. Clark (in the chair;, J. W. Thomson, J. Duncan, and W. Dallas. Shotovkr.— Ranger M'Kenzie, in reporting on an application by Messrs M'Donnell, Low, and Prltohard to graze over certain Crown lands in blocks VIII andX, Shotover, adjaoent to their properties, suggested that the lauds applied for be offered in two portions under pastoral license at a rental of £5 per annum each.— lt was agreed to recommend •Jie Government to give effect to Ranger M'Kenzle's suggestions. Maniototo.— Mr D. Geoffrey wrote stating that the sectional surveygoingonat Maniototo Included portion of a fence erected by him. He asked that in the event of his being an unsuccessful applicant for the land that he be allowed to remove his fence or obtain compemation therefor.— The matter was reforred to the chief surveyor with the vie» of giving effect to the request. Glknkknich.— Mr W. L. Simpson, on behalf of John .Hdgar, wrote stating that ho was rtf eirous of having a revaluation of seotion 11, block XII, Glenkenioh, held by him as pastoral deferred payment land, and after wards exchanged for a small grazing rnu. The Undersecretary tor Crown Lands wrote regarding this matter as follows:— "In reply to your memo, relative to Mr Edgar's application to have his small grazing run revalued, I am directed by the Hon. Minister of Lands to state that 'The Selectors' Lands Revaluation Act ' does not apply to pastoral deferred-payment lands, relief being afforded by the exchange to the small grazing run system." — I he reply was noted, Waipori.— Mr B. Robinson, juo. applied for a lease of 50 acres of the Waipori bush.- The application was referred to Hanger Hughan for a report. An Important Point.— Mr W. D, Smith brought the following caße under the notice of the board :— A person holds 640 aocea on perpetual lease at 20s per acre. On revaluation the land is reduced to 17s Sd. He aßked if that person might take up a further area, and if the reduction brought bis land under the head of second-class land.— lt was stated that the matter was being inquired into by the chief commissioner (Mr Maitland), who is at present in Wellington, Makrbwhknua,— On behalf of a client, Mr O. Martin applied to have the cash price of section 1, j block XIV. Maerewbenua, reduced from 15s per acre to 7s 6d, the land having been open since March 1888 without being disposed of.— The board agreed to recommend that the seotion be reduced to lCs per acre. WABEPi..— Mr B. Christie, jun., wrote with reference to a road being taken through eeotion 22, block X, Warepa, to open up Crown lauds, stating that he was willing to give the said road on obtaining compensation therpfor He objected to a road being taken In any other way through his Bection.— Noted. Ida Valley.— Mr W. L. Slmpon, on behalf of Mr Drummory, lessee of small-grazing Run 244 v, asked permission ior his client to reside on his farm in Ida valley, which was situated about six miles from the run.— Permission was granted. HAWKSBURy.— Mr W. D. Smith, on behalf of Thomas Dempster, applied for permission for hit client to reside on his lea^eshold seotion 99, block V, Hawksbury, instead of on his small grazing run, section 5, block I, HummncUsid«>, le^s than 10 mites distant.— Permission was granted. Applications. -The following applioatlonß were grautisd :— For rural land on perpetual lease: Robert Ciimiue, sections 1 and 4. blooK X, Warepa. To transfer perpetual lease : Allan M'Lauchlan to Dunotri Sl' Donald, sections 2(7, 29, 30, 33, 33, and 34, block IV, Mount Hyde. To complete purchase: Robert Cunningham, section 6, block 11, Kurow ; Robert Cunningham, section 8, block 11, Kurow. An application hv J. B. G. Harrox to purohase seotion 16, blook XV, 31aokstoiie, was referred to the Government, with a recommendation to give effect to tho application. Walter Lit' le and another applied for a coal lease over 60 acres at Cardrona.— liefetrtd to Ranger Hughan for a roport. Bannockbuhn. -Henry Parcel, holder of a coal lease over seotion 15, block I, Bannockburn, declined to take up the lease.— Lease forfeited for non-execu-tion. Sutton.— Mr 0. Martin, for a olient, asked Ihat j the township reserve in block IV, Sutton. be notified as open for selection.— Referred to Ranger Hugban for a report. Woodland.— The Chief Surveyor^forwarded a plan j of block IV, Woodland,. with the view of the land ' being dealt with, as follows :— I
—It was agreed to have, the land notified at the prices suggested, with the exception of section 19, which would be withheld in the meantime. Waikouaiti.— Messrs Thomas Alcock and S. H. Alcook, in reply to oirculars, requested exemption from residence on their small grazing runs, so that they might dwell on their farms in the Waikouaiti district.— The board agreed that uuder the law the applications could be granted. Mount Hyds.— lnspector Douglas requested that Mr M'Douald, who had unde 'taken to poison rabbits on sections 6 and 12, block IX, Mount Hyde, should obtain the right to temporarily occupy the land.— Referred to the chief commissioner. It will interest those in New Zealand who contributed essays on the Federation of the World question, in competition for the money prizes offered by Mr B. W. Cole, of the Book Arcade, Melbourne, to learn that Professor Tucker, of the Melbourne University, Professor Gosm&n, Congregational minister, and Mr Alexauder Sutherland, M.A , are the geDtlemen engaged in deciding the merits of the essays. The names of the successful competitors will be announced shortly. Mr Cole is inviting additional essays up to the 31st July to go into the coming book.
