RIVERSDALE.
Junk 28.— During the past two weeks we have had a good deal of frosty weather, retarding somewhat the operations of the plough. At the time of writing, however, there are indications of a change to rain. Oddfellows. — This body met on the 18th mat., when the half-yearly election of officers totk place. There was a large attendauce of members and soma visiting brethren. The following are the names of the newly-elected officers who were installed iuto office :— N.G., A. H. Aitken ; V.G., W. Dakers ; 8.5., W. Gee ; K.S. to N.G., R. Eeid ; L.S. to N.G., George Watt; warden, H. Lyons; guardian, A. Stewart. The lodge decided that Dr Butler should commence practice at once. Some new members were proposed, and the meeting adjourned. Salk or Cropping Lbasks.— A great deal of Interest is always taken in the disposal of the lands annually let by the New Zealand Agricultural Company for cropping. The company's terms are easy, and such as induces competition for the varioua sections. On the 26th they offered some 43,000 acres, and every lot was sold, excepting a small section of 70 acres. Prices ranged from 3s to 17s per acre, and averaged fully 9s, which cannot be considered other than highly satisfactory to the vendors ; and ie is to be hoped the buyers will In dueseaion have reason to be pleased with their bargains. The sale took place nt the Drill Hall, and was conducted by Mr A. J. Feaie. Ploughing Match.— The Walmea Plains Ploughing Match Association met at Gee'a Hotel on Thursday evening to arrange for holding the annual match. Some 20 gentlemen were present, and Mr W. A. Donald was voted to the chair. It -was resolved, on the motion of Mr A. M'Caldon, that tho matoh should take pluoe on July 23. The balancs Bheet wa» read by the secretary, Mr John Hamilton, aud showed a surplus of £21 11s id to the credit of the association. This was considered satisfactory, and the balance sheet was adopted as read. A strong committee was then appointed, together with the following office-bearers :— President, G M. Bellj vice-presidents, H. S. Valentine, A. J. Pease, John. Hall; secretary, A. H. Aitken; treasurer, Jamea. Kelly ; ground committee, Messrs U ilson, Hall, John. Hamilton, and James Kelly. It was resolved to ask Messrs Held and Gray and Howard end Sons to give an exhibition of their digging ploughs on the day of the match. An honorarium of £5 was voted to the retiring leeretary and treasurer. A vote of thanks to the chairman closed the meeting.
