CASUALTIES.
A man, whose name was for some time unknown, told a Christchurch constable on the night of the 25fch that he was'suffering with his heart. He leaned against a post and fell. He was at oner taken in a cab to the police station, where he was found to be dead. The man has since been identified as Frederick Bean, a former resident of Rangiora. Samuel Cheekley, a mining engineer, has mysteriously disappeared at the Bay of Islands, under circumstances leading to the belief that he hns bppn natPH up by wild pigs or swallowed up with 1m horse in qnickßandp. William Davi< s, « half-casfcp, was out shouting nt Tnkahii, whon hft drew the gun towards liim, and th.fi hammfir catrhing in a root caused an explosion. Davies was shot through thn breast and died at once. C A Forbes, shipping engineer, aged 23 years, son of a ship chandler ab Lyttelton, has been misßing from Porirua Hotel for some days. He was in low spirits, . and it is feared may have done away with himself. Yung Ming Chow, an old resident of Lawrence, was found dead in bis hut on Thursday evening Congestion of the lungs was the cause of death. Henry James, aged about 60 years, and lately boots at Grey's Hotel, Kaitangata, was found dead on Friday evening in a surfaceman's hut near Benhar. Hv was last seen near the hut on the 24tb. Mr Fleming (coroner) held an inquest ou Saturday. The medical evidence went to show that death »vas the result of failure of the action of the heart, accelerated by exposure to cold and want of food. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical evideuce Patrick Hynes, a miner, was found dead in his claim at Waipori on Saturday. There wore no marks of violence about the body. At the inquest on Monday the jury returned a verdict of " Found dead." James Carson, a pensioner, 60 years of age, fell in one of the streets of Wellington on Saturday, and broke his thigh. He was removed to the hospital, where he died on Monday night, from shock to hw system.
