PHASES OF THE MOON.

ANALYSIS OF SOILS AND ASSAYING MINEBALS. To the miner the necessity of obtaining nn analysis of any minerals he may discover is bo forcibly brought home to him that he has uo choice but to obtain the services of a practical analyst before he can take any steps towards making use of his find. Not so the farmer, however, who, though he freely admits, as a rule, the value of obtaining a knowledge of the nature and capabilities of Mb land, can nevertheless make use of it, though in all probability to nothing like the same advautage as he would do were he aware of its constituents and actual capa bilities and wants. With a view to encouraging the obtaining of analyses of soils, and icauures therefore we have made arrangements with Mr Frank M. Allan, a practical analyst, with satisfactory Home credentials, to undertake work of this nature for constituents of the Witness at special rates. We shall plaoe correspondents in direct communication with Mr Allan, and all fees will be payable to him. Samples (carriage paid) with the necessary fee, addressed to Mr Allan, care of Editor Otago Witness, will receive prompt attention. The following is the fIOALB OF EBBS FOR ANALYSIS.
