KAITANGATA.
Junk 24.— Since writing my lastifc will be observed that our member, Mr J. O. Anderson, has addressed bis Milton constituents ; but as he does not intend to contest the seat at the election he overlooked the minor parts of his electorate The announcement that Mr W. H. M Kenzle, of this town, intends to contest the forthcoming election is not regarded seriously by the inhabitants of this locality. Light.— On Wednesday last week the whole of the lamps erected by |the borough council were lit for the first time, and the streets had a much better appearance in consequence. Mr Ramage made a firstclass job, and was complimented by the connoil. Football.— The Bumaide footballers failed to put in an appearance on Saturday, ns sufficient of their number could not get away. I believe a team from the Southern Club contemplate visiting Kaitangata on Saturday, June 28, to try conclusions with the local club. The success of the club will to a great extent depend upon the result of the matches this season, as the publio will always patronise a deserving and successful object Let the members therefore wire in and practice all they can, and I feel Bure they will take a lot of beating. The Punt Liability.-- Inoticein thereportof last Olutaa County Council meeting that £30 was owing by Kaitaogata Borough Council on account of the punt on the Kcau branch of the river. If I remember rightly the council never objected to pay the money, but simply held it over to see if the punt would meet the requirements of the district. It -wb' found that it was in no way satisfactory, and from the report of the puntmnn, Mr Taylor, it seems that it is not likely to be of any service as constructed at present. Grave doubts were entertained when the site was pointed out at first, as the river is very wide at the apot. and being co cose to the sea, it is greatly affected by the tide. The power* who have control of it will require to spend a good sum to put it in a oondition to meet all weather and tides. Fhost —The weather is co frosty at present that Inquiries are being made for ice skates, as the lake is alinoit fit to bear, and should the frost continue it will be in grand order by to-morrow (25th).
