THE TOILERS OF THE HOUSEHOLD.
Dear Alice, — I shall add my experience to Mary's. If Mary had been in a good place her master would not have insulted her. I have been in a number of places, but not one like Mary's. I sit in a comfortable kitchen with a good lire and three chairs, and all good ones, not three legged ones that you would fall off. If I had been in Mary's place I should have mended the chair or not have had it in the kitchen at all. No respectable master would come into the kitchen after his servant girls were sitting down ; and if my mistress were to want me to work after I came in at 10 o'clock I should think she was
Zealand," giving her experience. lam only a servant, and will not be able to answer her fully, but I hope the servants she has so cruelly reviled and the hotel mistresses she has cast such a slur on will not be slow to answer her as she deserves. I think if she had been a mistress like some of the ones here she would not have had so many changes In her five years. She tells you how many general servants she has had, but never mentions how many nurses — about an equal number, I suppose. I also hope some of the good mistresses will give their experiences, as I can truly tell you mistresses like the one giving her version in yesterday's paper are few and far between. I think it is nice, when a girl leaves her situation, to be able to <?o back and see her mistress — having a sort of home feeling, instead of when notice is given to leave the mistress rages and scolds, resulting, as she says, in the poor girl running away. I also hope she will continue to practice the last portion of her letter faithfully, and keep her servants longer in the future, not forgetting to display a more ladylike and charitable spirit when she writes about her servants and neighbours. — I am, &c, Nora.
