LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Land Board held on Wednesday was attended by Mr J. P. Maitland (chief commissioner), W. Dallas, H. Clark, and J. Duncan.

Shotoveb —Ranger M'Kenzie, in reporting on the respective applications of M'Donnell and Low for a pastoral licence to occupy sections 11,12, and 14, blook XIV, Shotover, stated that the liuids wero steep, rough, pabtoral country which had been fenced by Mr M'Donnell at considerable expense He thought that Mr M'Donnell h:id first claim to tho land, and suggested that the application be dealt with at once, as the rabbits were becoming plentiful on the sections.— R. Pritchard applied for the right to graze stock over portion of the reserv in blocks VIII and X, Shotover. containing about 200 acres, on condition that he kept the laud clear of rabbits.— The applications were referred to the rangei to report as to whether it was advisable to offer tbe landt in question for pastoral Hcenae.

Nevis RuN.-Mr Spencer H. Turton, on behalf of Kdward M'Nulty, applied for a license to raiee lignite for three years over five acres on the Nevis Run. - Mr W. L. Simpson forwarded a letter from Messrs Richmond. Holmes, and Anderson objecting to the application being granted.— The application was declined under the exceptional circumstances of the case.

Wakatipu.— Mr B. T. Wing, managing director of the Wakatipu Steam Shipping Company, asked that their jetty licenses, 8, 182, and 337, be renewed for other snven years. -Lioense 182 was renewed for seven years. The other licenses have two years further to run before expiry. Nenthorn. — The Seoretary of the Education Board asked that sections 1, 2. 3, i, 17, 18, 19, and 20. block V, Nanthorn be reserved as an additional school site to the present one recently set apart. — It waß decided to recommend the Government to reserve the land as requested. Strath-Taiebi.— Mr John Nolan wrote asking that section 13, blook V, Strath-Taieri, be brought under the Revaluation Act.— The board were of opinion that the provisions of tl.e act did not apply to the application in question.

Glknorohy. — Hanger M Kenzie. in reporting on J. M'Donsld's application to occupy a small portion of the Glenorchy township reserve, recommended that the land within the township reserve be subdivided into small areas In the meantime he Baw no objection to the applicant being granted permission to occupy the land in question.— Referred to the chief commissioner.

Gimmbrburn.— Mr S. B. M'Carthy, on behalf of James M'Knight, stated that be was desirous of surrendering hiß coaj lease over land in block I, Gimraerburn. — Surrender accepted. Teviot,— The board were requested to fix the upset rental to be charged for pastoral run, section 46, block 11, Teviot —Jt was dec Wed to fix the upset at £6 per annum

Applications to Complete Purchase. — The following applications to complete purchase were approved :— David Lawrpnce Black, section 13, block 111, Mount Hyde; Ebenezer Black, section 131, block lit, same district.

Vincent County.— The Engineer of the Vincent Count forwardnd plans of roads for approval on whioh the council intended to expend £104 16s 9d. The districts were : — Poolburu, Lower Hawea, Tiger Hill, Lauder, Leaning Hock an I Tarras,— The road lines in, i.nefttlon were approved.

Forfeiture of Licenses. — Notice having been given to tbe underment'oned licensees that unless their license fees were paid by a certain date their licenses would be brought before the hoard for cancellation, and the fees being still unpaid the board were therefore asked to forfeit the licenses : — John Ponplewell, Tua.peka Kast (license to cut flax); A. O. Commin, blocks X. XVIII, XIX, Tmpelia. Bust ; -- Leslie, block XVIII, Tunpcka Bait (license to out flax) : and John M'Neil, block 111, Tuapeka East.— Popplewell's license to issue for two years from the 19th March on the immediate payment of fee ; the same to apply to Leslie's and Gomrain's license. Consideration pf M'Neil's lice"si w?s adjourned for a week.

Idabubn.— Mr S. B. M'Carthy, on behalf of Jane Anderson, asked that surrender of coal lea<e No. 27, section 1, Idaburn, be accepted, and a new lease Issued to her for the area.— Adjourned for a week. Maniototo.— A memo, was received from the Receiver of Land Revenue stating that Patrick M'Clusky, holder of sections 8 and 10, block IX, Maniototo district, cm perpetual leaie, was 18 months in arrcar with his rent, and suggested that he should receive one month's notice to pay or show cause why his license should* not be forfeited.— The Miggestion was agreed to.
