OTIAKE.
Junk 12.— This spotiitsjtuated within the valley of the Waitaki, and in fine bosom of ragged but picture ique and snow-clad mountains. The slopes of the country are almost devoid of trees, but the monotony is relieved by the beautiful river, which bends and glides between banks skirted with gracef ul bulrushes and waving flax. Here and there along the water's side little islets appear, which abound in rabbits. The climate of this district, although rery dry, is particularly healthy, and during the summer months the air has a beautiful glimmering appearance. The residents of Otiako are fortunate in the
possession of a public library, for the benefit of whioh a concert and dance was held on the evening of the sth inst. The wea^ ther being delightful, a large and appreciative audience assembled to enjoy one of the most successful concerts ever held here. During the evening the local talent was ably assisted by several ladies and gentlemen from other part. The concert over, the young folks " tripped it lightly in the dance " to cheerful music. In due time all dispersed, apparently satisfied with their uight'B enjoyment.
