In the first place the publio, who expected a heavy re turn from the Inkerman, were disappointtd. The manager gives his accuint of the reason, and it miy turnout that the boxes will turn out well. However, the figures, with the mannger's explanation, must g'> forth. The Globe returns, in spite of a short stoppage of crushing, are also good; as also are the figures from the Progress. The latter is now believed to have reached the better portion of the block, but business in the meantime Is slncV, and the compl-iint sienna to be that there are as yet no outside buyers Th« weather is cold now and wintry, and there is every likelihood of a snowfall to-night. Reefton, June 16.
Supreme. —deferring to a letter signed "Shareholder" pub.uhed in th« Otago Daily Times, and lately reprinted here, in which charges of mismanagement are made against the directors, the legal manager o f the comp my to-day publishes the following:—" Sir,— ln a letter written by a shareholder, under date Dnnedin, June 6, 1b the following:— ' It would be interesting to kuow how many shares are held in Ueefton,' 1 beg to supply the information. Thirty-five shareholders in B p eftou and local holding 14 457 shares; 19 shareholders in Dunedin holding 4830 shares ; three shareholders in Otngo holding 1323 shares ; six shareholders in Christohurch holding 2993 shares; five shareholders in the Vorth Island holding 700;— total, 21,000 And I might say the directors are interested in the property themselves to the extent of 8428 shares. — W. Hikdmahsh, Legal Manager." So much for what the manager «f the company has to 6ay. I notice " Shareholder " accuses the Daily Times of publishing inflated reports concerning the mine. This Is certainly untrue in so far as regards anything contributed by me to your column! is concerned. As a matter of fact, rather the opposite has been the case, and as far as possible I abstained from even mentioning the mine as I was from the first afraid of It, though shareholders maintained their faith in its to the last.
