HUNTING.
The amount of support promised to the Birchwood Hunt has been such, says the Western Star, that the club has been formed and the necessary arrangements are being completed to inaugurate the Reason. Mr Farquhar M'Kay has been appointed huntsman, and kennels are to bo erected at the buntsman's residence, Gummie's Bush the centre of a splendid hunting country. The first run of the season is set down to take place at the master's homestead, Birchwood, on the 31st inst., to be followed by a meet at Heldon Bush on June 7. No other fixtures have yet been arranged, but most likely hunts to Mlow will bo arranged at Otautau, Thornbury, Riverton, Invercargill, and on to Goro, at 1 which latter place most substantial support is boing accorded. Tho up country gentlemen havesubscibed so very liberally to keep up the sport that we trußt their efforts will be duly appreciated, and that the lower districts will contribute their quota towards the xuaintonaiice of the pack.
