The Trotting Dispute.

TO THE BDITOB. Silt,— l see that the Canterbury Trotting Association intend placing all trotting events throughout New Zealand under their own special care ana protection. This must be a godsend to tho Dunedin Jockey Olub, who have lately shown a thorough aiH

utter incompetenoyin dealing with trots, even if the Incident involved is simplicity itself. Ido not believe that there are a dozen disinterested men in New Zealand who know anything about racing and possessed of ordinary intelligence, but could settle the trotting dispute now before tbe club in 10 minutes. Why the Dunedin Jockey Club has not done bo is a matter of everyday comment, ridicule, and sneers. It is no good denying tho fact that something more than incompetency is broadly hinted at, and that the Supreme Court has been resorted to in the liopo that, by some quirk of the law, a verdict may be obtained contrary to what the decision would be in any raciug tribunal in the world. I have always held the highest opinions of tho stewards of the Dunediu Jockey Olub, and believe that all decisions have been fair and honest. It is to be hoped they will take steps to clear themselves from the rumours that ate floating in Ihe air. You will Bee by my card that I have nothing to do with the stewards of the Duuedin Jookey Club. I am not interested in, the remotest degree, directly or indirectly, in the present dispute.— l am, &c, Dunedin, April 29. Ruby.
