OUR AUCKLAND SPORTING LETTER.

(Fbom Oub Own Cobeespondbnt.) Auckland, April 29. A meeting of the directors of the New Zealand Stud Company was held yesterday afternoon, and as a result a meeting of the shareholders ia called for the 16th prox., when a resolution for winding up the company will be proposed. lam glad to be able to state that there seems a good prospect of some Aucklanders taking the matter up, and should certain proposals that are to be laid before the Bank of New Zealand be formally entertained a new company on a firm basis will probably be formed. Matters are looking well 'at Sylvia Park. Sylvia (dam of Martini-Henry), and Onyx (dam of Nordenfeldt) are both in foal to Ingomar, while Mersey (dam of Carbine), and Nelly Moore (dam of Lochiel) are both in foal to Nordenfeldt. Though the attendance on both days of the Auckland Autumn meeting was much below antioipation, the totalisator receipts came out most satisfactorily, and they show an increase of £1975 on the amount put through at the corresponding meeting last year. The club will probably make a small profit on the meeting. Mr S. Williamson has not been long in turning over a good profit on his purchase of Leolinus at Sylvia Park in January last. He secured the son of Caterer for 40gs, and I understand that he disposed of him last week to Mr L. D. Nathan for an advance of lOOgs on that price. In the event of the weights awarded to Hilda and Antelope in the Birthday Cup and Royal Stakes being favourable, George Wright will probably leave for Sydney by next week's steamer. Both these mares are looking very well, and should Hilda fulfil her engagement a good deal of money will be aent from here to back her. Mr J, Rao has written over from Sydney stating that he has taken Titokowaru and Guy Fawkes to Victoria in order to race if wanted at some of the meetings to be held there next month. I understand that Rae intends returning to Auckland at an early date, but at present it is not known what his intentions are regarding the continuance of his training establishment at Otahuhu. The South Auckland Racing Club find themselves in a little difficulty over the payment of the stakei in connection with two of the events deoided at their recent meeting. In the Cup, Mr J. Kean's representative St. Michael came in first, but it transpired some days ago that according to the conditions of the race the winner had incurred a 51b penalty by his victory at the Taranaki meeting, which he had not carried. Mr Walters, the owner of Pinflre, who ran second, thereupon protested against the stakes being paid over to Mr Kean. On the placard issued by the club there is no mention made of penalties, but in the programme published in the official calender it is clearly stated that the winner of a race of the value of £50 Shall carry a 51b penalty. Mr Kean will therefore lose the stakes. There is a protest also lodged over the Flying Stakes, it being held that all the horses bar Pinflre were in front of the post when the flag fell ; and it would seem that the committee will have to declare the race null and void. The s.s. To Anau, which left for Sydney today, waß the bearer of two more Auckland horses to Australia — viz., the steeplechasers Recruit and Seaweed. Mr R. Williams is, I understand, taking them over as a spec, and they will be offered by auction on arrival at Sydney. Hune, who it will be observed acted as runner-up in the Hurdles and Steeple at Avondale on Saturday, is a four-year-old half-sister to Mata, being got by Cap-a-pie from Raupo. She jumped very well throughout, and may see a better day. The Avondale Jockey Club held their inaugural meeting on Saturday last. It passed off most satisfactorily, About 1000 persons were present, Including the Governor and suite. It opened with the Maiden Plate, of 20sovs, one mile, whioh attracted a field of 14. The winner turned up in Fishmonger (7.0), a rather smart looking son of Isaak Walton, who ran home an easy winner in front of Stamford (6.13). The Hurdle Race, of 40sovs, one mile and three-quarters, revealed a very promising animal in Killarney (9.3), who went to the front when the flag fell, and ran home an easy winner from Hune and six others. Dividend, £4 Bb. The big event of the afternoon was the Avondale Gup, of 55sovs, one mile and a-quarter, which drew the followir ' field — St. Michael (8.3), Pinfire (7.8), Tamora - *), Riot (7.2), Prudence (7.2), Dollar (7.2), Niggei . ,i3),and Try Fluke (6.5). Halfway upthe straight Pinfire looked all over a winner, but at this point Tamora put in her claim, and after an exciting'nnish won by a neck. Dividend, £16 15s. Tamora is the daughter of Musket and Moonlight, and the season before last did some good service for George Wright's stable. The Welter Handicap, of 20sovb. drew out a cap Hal field of 10, Fishmonger (10.0) being made a warm favourite. When catering the straight he fell, and the winner turned up in Nigger (11.12), who beat Try Fluke (10.10) by a neck. Dividend, £5 Bs. The Steeplechase, of 50sovs. about three miles, had the following starters :— Falcon (11.0), The Colonel (10.8), Larrikin (9 10;, Black Joe (9 7), Killarnev (9 7), and Hime (9 7). As in tlie Hurdle Race, Killarney went to the front when the flag fell and was never collared. Hune was second and The Colonel third. Dividend, £2 6s. The Flying Stakes, of 30sovs, six furlongs, was a perfect boil over, the sellinß-plater Dollar (7.4; walt/lng homo in front of Ingoritia (7 3) and five others, aud a dividend of £19 4a was the result. CRICKET. The last cricket match of the Auckland

season vffti pfayeel on Saturday, when the Warehousemen ana PoDßOnby Clubs played off their tsfj for the Association Junior Oup. The Utter woo.
