The sculling race between Peter K>mp and Neil Matterson, for £200 aside and the championship of tbe world, was rowed over the. championship course on the Parramatta river this afternoon. There was a large attendance of the public at vantage points along the river banks, and tbe steamers which followed the race were well patronised. Both men were in excellent form. From a splendid start Kemp dashed away pulling 43 strokes to Matterson's 41, and in the first few strokes had forged slightly a-head. Matterson was rowing splendidly, but could make no headway against Kemp's steady swinging stroke. At thn mile post Kemp had a lead of two lengths, and from thn out the race may be said to have been virtually over, as Kemp never allowed Matterson, who appeared to be thoroughly exhausted, to get near him, and he rowed in the easiest of winners by quite 250 yds. Tim", 21min 13£ sec. The betting was in favour of Kemp. U ibf"\r states that he is prepared to make ano! her match with Brown. He declares that in the race rowed on Wednesday he had no al!er:i;>(ive but to row Brown down. Had he not f!onu so he would have run ashore.
