GORE
April 15.— Mr Revell Is unfortunately suffering from an attaok of pleurisy, and is quite unfit to attend to any business. Next Thursday's R.M, Court will therefore be taken by two Justices, and the Walkala Court, whioh should have been held today, stands adjourned until the next court day, a month hence. Gorb Cottage Hospital.— Last Wednesday the propositions of the subscribers to this admirable soheme were brought up before the Southland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. The committee asked for a subsidy of £200, a like amount having now been promised locally. The estimates for a complete cottage hospital are £400. The committee undertook to wise £100 a year for annual maintenance, pledging themselves not to make application to the board for more money. A motion put by Mr Thomas MaoGlbbon and seconded by Mr Kellar was carried, drawing the attention of the applicants to sections 42 and 43 of the act, and informing them that If action were taken under these sections the board would offer no objection, on the distinct understanding that the building should only be vied for a cottage hospital for the temporary accommodation of pati#»ts on their way to InvercargUl. The ohairman offthe board in the course of the discussion on the motion, observed that the board oould nob grant the request of the applicants as they did noft represent any responsible body, and that therefore they should apply for incorporation as a separate institution. • The Nbw Electoral Districts. -The feeling herein favour of having Gordon and Gore in the same electorate is very strong. Considering that the amalgamation of the two townships is probably only a matter of a few months, it certainly seems ridiculous that they should be in different electorates. The mayor has wired to the commissioners representing the unanimous opinion of the inhabitants of the two boroughs. Railway Genebosity.— lt [has long since been stated on what should be good authority that " plans are being prepared" for a station at Gore costing £10,000. Every traveller who has occasion to use the present station must admit that the accommodation for passengers is grossly inadequate, and, considering the large traffic of this junction, the want of shelter and other conveniences Is actually unfair treatment to the travelling public A few months ago the first instalment (it is supposed) of the traditional £10,000 was expended in adding a new siding and moving the goods shed. A month or two ago the authorities made another hole in the £10,000 by hanging up a new platform-bell at a cost of at least 40s. Now the platform is being lengthened in readiness for the next Exhibition
Beason, but as for decent shelter and other-necessary I conveniences for passengers, we are about as far oft I them as ever. No doubt for years to come every in- | dignant complaint will be met with the consoling i reply, that " plans have been prepared fora station costing £10,000, and operations will shortly be commenced." The same old story , as everybody knows who has watched the way that " political railways " are slowly lengthened. Somehow or other " plans have beeu prepared" very shortly before every Parliamentary eleotion, every since the Vogel era began. .southland Hunt Olub.— Membership has been fixed at a guinea. The following gentlemen in Gore and neighbourhood are authorised to receive subscriptions of those willing to become members— viz., Messrs G. M. Bell, B. Bunn, W. D. Dalgleish, Thos. Green, and I. S. Simoon.
