THE NEW ZEALAND AND SOUTH SEAS EXHIBITION.
SOME OF THE EXHIBITS. INTRODUCTORY. A few weeks ago it seemed hardly possible that the attendance at the exhibition should amount to 600,000, but it now may be regarded as certain that it will exceed that number, which, it has to be remembered, is almost equivalent to the total European population of the colony. At the beginning of last week the total admissions had been 546,820, and the attendance for the week was 34,769, bringing the total attendance up to 581,589, or only 18,411 short of 600,000. With regard to last week's attendance there are one or two further points which deserve to be mentioned. The total is the largest recorded for any week since New Year week, and it has been exceeded by the attendances on three weeks only since the opening. These weeks were the opening week, Christmas week, and New Year week. The attendance for the week which included the friendly societies' demonstration, which comes fifth in respect of the number of admissions, was exceeded last week by 747. From the appended returns of the daily attendances it will be seen that while there was a particularly large muster on Easter Monday, there were good average attendances "on each of the succeeding days of last week :—

In point of the receipts as well as in that of the attendance, last week proved a most satisfactory one, the takings from the paid admissions, entertainments, and various small sources being larger than they have been since the New Year week. The amount taken was £1311 15s 2d, including £1020 2e 6d paid at the turnstiles. The total receipts from turnstiles, lioenses, entertainments, and sundry sources since the opening of the exhibition has been £23,418 4s sd.
