He sits and iwlngs where kowhai flings its petals fco the stream, . Where thirsty lips of rusheß dip and dancing shadows gleam; By bouldera brown'd and lichen crown d by rippling ford and shallow, Where" airo come cool from hidden pool or breezy uplaud fallow; Where flix uprears it rußtliDg spears, by winding creek and river From sunburnt reach of shingle beach, where whispering grasses quiver; Where sharp-Bet spura ot yellow furze guard many an inßeofc dwelling From Btraggling shrub or tangled scrub, his gentle notes are welling. On steep hillside where shadows glide of winged hawk slow drifting By many a turn through sorub and fern of narrow sheep trench rifting. Oh, wren, thrill on I Your tiny song recalls long banished pleasures, Till, like your note, they aeem to float in halfforgotten measures.
