—Ixion ia entered for the Hurdle Race at the Ellesmere meeting. — Dolosa, winner of the Taranaki Handioap, is full sister to Whakawai. —Dick Maßon was, I regret to hear, too ill to be present at the O. J.O. meeting. — Nominations for the handicaps at the D. J.C. May meeting close on the 12th inst. — " Spectator " tells us that Ahua, the jumping champion, has left some promising Btook in the Marton district.
— The American jockey Stone was not hanged ; his sentence being commuted to one of imprisonment for life, —The Yankee stallion Axtell, whioh cost 105,000d01, is uninsured but is kept in a fireproof and isolated stable. —Golden Hope went amiss at the Geraldine meeting, and thus lost a fair chance in the Epsom Welter at Chriatchuroh. —Charlie O'Connor will probably remain in charge of the Hon G. M'Lean's horses until after the Dunedin May meeting. —The bandioapping at the Canterbury meeting was so good on the whole as to provoke favourable commentß from everyone. —In 1877 England exported 2352 horseß ; in 1878, 2974; in 1879, 5072; in 1887, 9463; in 1888, 12,880 ; in 1889, 14,267 ;— total for six years, 47,008. —A singular operation was performed on Rußseila, Bister to the American Maud S. Her teeth on orse side overlapped, and the bit did not touoh the sensitive part of the mouth. A special instrument was made, and with it the teeth were out down an mob.
— Two to one is the best offer against Surefoot for the Two Thousand Guineas to ba run at the Newmarket meeting on the 30th inst., and 7 to 2 for the Derby run at Epsom on June 4. The Hon. Mr White's colts continue to do steady exercise, but there is no change in the odds against them, — AGisborne telegram states that at the Toroa Club's Steeplechase Obeo won the Steeplechase ol two miles. Impostor aud Truthful ran a dead heat for the Flying Handicap, and in the run off Impostor won. Dividend, £.1 19s. The Easter Handioap waß won by Fitzjames, Truthful second, and Ngara third. —The news reaches ub from France of the death of Energy at the stud of M. E. Blanc at Oelle, St. Cloud. Bred at the Yardley stud in 1880, by Stirling out of Cherry Duohesa, Energy was sold as a yearling for lOOOgs, He ran through a successful career, and was then Bold for 5000gB to cross the channel, — I am told that the cause of the bad start in the C.J.O. Champagne Stakes waa Thackeray's jumping across the front of all the horseß excepting Medallion when the flag was lowered, and thus throwing the field into confusion, The explanation seems a reasonable one, '.though I am not able to give it either confirmation or denial.
— The following resolutions have been passed by the Auckland Racing Club :—" (1) That iv future no programme that contains a pony or trotting race shall be passed by the olub. (2) If any club after the Auckland Racing Club has approved of the programme should add a pony race and allow such to be run on its course, such club shall not be longer recognised by the Auckland Racing Club." — Oomeaway, the horse at first most fancied for the Liverpool Grand National, was scratched about the middle of February. The cause of his name being removed from the Grand National list waa that a share or contingency which his late owner and breeder, Mr M. J. Oorbally, retained in the son of Cambuslang was not registered in aooordanoe with a provision in the new rules which govern steeplechasing. —A meeting of those interested in the dispute ia connection with the Two-mile Trot at the last Anniversary meeting was held at Pbilp's Hotel on Tuesday night, those present represent-
ing 27 out of 33 backers of Misß Nettie and Crowhurst's Spot and the owners of both horses. It was agreed to support a resolution dividing the money, ana so prevent litigation, as the stakes and totalisator money have been paid into the Supreme Court. By advertisement in the Daily Times the owßew seek the co-operation of the remaining investors, and invite them to attend or commuuicate on Thursday night, at 8 o clock at Philp's Hotel.
