EDENDALE.

April 7.— The present season has been a compara* tlvely favourable one for harvest operations. The early part of the season was all that could be desired, and early matured crops were secured iv good condition. During the past few weeks, however, the weather has been anything bnt favourable for leadIng in. Although one or two small patohes are still in the itook, the threshing mill bus been at work in the district for some time. The oat crops in general are good, some being exceptionally heavy. Farmers are somewhat at a loss to now how to deal with this cereal. Bather than sell at the prices ruling, however, the tendency seems to be to hold the grain under the Impression that while there is little room for falling there is a possibility for a rise in prices. The present autumn is an extremely favourable season for root orops, and turnips promise (veil, especially where the laud has been well prepared and liberally manured.

For Winter Evenings.— The Mutual Improvement Society, which was inaugurated and carried on so successfully last year, is snowing signs of continued vitality. The annual meeting was held last week, '.when the following were appointed offloabearers for the ensuine year :— President, Mr Thomas Ayson ; vice-presidents, Meisrs A. Hall and A. Mitchell ; secretary and treasurer, Mr T. Monfceatb. Member of committee, Messrs F. Smith and N. M'Kelvie. I understand the session will open about the beginning of May, and that the executive committee are preparing a syllabus which should ensure some profitable and attractive meetings. Holidays.— Most of the Bdendale people have visited theexhibition, and the general verdict is one of surprise aud admiration. The facilities for cheap travelling afforded by the Bailway Commissioners were fully taken advantage of in this district, and I believe were another excursion arranged for a good many more would avail themselves of it, as the busy season of harvest and dairy work is now almost over.
