Chess and Draughts Club.

The seventh annual meeting of the Dunedin Ohesiand Draughts Club was held on the 25th ult., when there was a good attendance of members. The retiring president (Mr L. Shaw) occupied the ohair. The Treasurer (Mr R. Caldow) read the report, whioh showed the club to be in a good position, and Mr Diokson proposed that the report be adopted. Seconded by Mr W. Kirk, and carried unanimously. It was agreed to raise the subscription to 10s a year, and 6s for six months, payable in advance . The following officers were elected for the ensuing year :— President, Mr J. P. Bell ; secretary, Mr D. A. Brodie ; treasurer, Mr R. Oaldow (re-elected) "; committee — Messrs R. Lawton. R. Abermthv, J. Abernethy. H. Howes. Mr Shaw said that he had received a challenge from the secretary of the Christchurch Club to play a matoh by telegraph during April, about 10 players a side. The challenge had been accepted, and tbe Dunedin team would be picked shortly. All the players were requested to meet for practice at the olub room. The scores now ntand equal between Otago and Ohristohureh, they having played six matoh.es, and scoring three wins a piece. Dunedin will put a strong team in the field this time. The secretary on the 26th ult. received a letter from Mr R. Abernethy, who was unavoidably absent from the annual meeting, resigning his position on the committee.
