SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP OF NEW ZEALAND.
(From Oue Own Correspondent.)
Wellington, September 17.
I have excellent authority for stating that in every probability a match for the sculling championship of New Zealand will be arranged between O. Btephenson and W. Hearn. Stephenson is an Aucklander, who was sent to Australia a little while ago in the belief that he would develop into a first-class oarsman. His only noteworthy race has been that with Kemp's brother which he won the other day. He immediately issued a challenge to row Hearn for £200 a-side. During the last few days arrangements have been made, and, I believe, brought to a successful termination, for the stake money to be put up for Hearn. The stake will be £100 a-side, and the intention is that the match shall be rowed in Wellington Harbour on February 1.
