HIGH SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

The monthly meeting of the Otago School Commissioners was held on Tuesday, and attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (chairman), J. Walker Bain, and T. Denniston.

: A letter was received from Mr Edmund Smith, factor of the Otago Presbyterian Church Board, asking the commissioners to exchange section 2, block IV, town of Lumoden, for section 3 of the same block.- The commissioners had no power to exchange without special legislation, but had no objection to sell if the Governor's approval could be obtained la the matter.

■ Mr J. L. M'Donald, the commissioners' agent at Invercargill, forwarded his monthly report on the following matters i— He reported that he had attended the K.M. Court at Waikaia on the 20th ult., and obtained judgment against Maty Maher for arrears of interest and costs. Since then £14 lls and costs had been paid. He also obtained judgment against H. Brown, of Dipton, for £4 and costs, for arrears of rent.

He recommenced that the occupancy of section 8, block XIV, Dipton, be terminated , and that the Bectioa be offered at the first sale at the upset of 3s 6d per aoro, or £1 10s per annum.— Approved.

He forwarded an application from W. Tuffery, lessee of section 48, block HI, Few River Hundred, for a reduction of rent, — It whs decided to decline to accede to the request, as the rim had only lately been, taken up. He forwarded a letter from Mr G. Wilson, lessee of section 55, block I, Waikaia, for a reduction of rent. Consideration of the matter was postponed. He reported that be had arranged to take a strip of land on the west side of section 7, block IX, Wafkaia, for mining purposes.— Approved. He forwarded an application from James Attiwell to lease portion of section 81, block I. Wendon. — It was decided to inform the applicant that the run being already leased to James Hlckey, the commissioners could not accede to the request. He forwarded a letter from Mr G. Sutherland, who asked to be allowed to surrender the lease of section 61, block I, Waikaia. — The surrender of the lease was accpted.

He forwarded an application from John Smith, leasee of section 13, block 11, Aparima Hundred, to be allowed an extra crop from part of his leasehold, and recommended that the application be granted.— Granted accordingly. He forwarded an application from Mr J. Irvine, Wsee of section 7, block IV, Mabel Hundred, for a reduction of rent — The commissioners could not see fcheir way to grant the request. It was resolved to grant the application of Mr W. C. Galloway to lease section 37, block IX, Waikaia, from year to year at a rental of 1b 6d per acre. The question of affording accommodation for tourists to Lake Te AnanJ was referred to Messrs Bain and Deaniston.

Accounts amounting to £54 9a, were passed for payment.
