Draughts Items.

Good for the " Comps."— From the Northern Leader we learn that the second match between two sets of players selected respectively from the compositors on the staff of that paper and the Newcastle Chroniole, came off in the Windsor Hotel, Newcastle. The former match having ended .in a draw, great interest was attached to the play, and there was a large attendance of compositors and others. Bach side used ita utmost efforts to win, but the result wa§ again a draw, each team scoring 18 wins, with three games drawn. Twenty-six players took part in the contest.

The Blade, an Ohio newspaper, which is published at Portsmouth, gives draughts players the following good advice s— " Never play with a sick man, above all keep clear of an ' hospital.' Give the fellow who is constantly complaining of bis head (lull of pain and emptiness) a wide berth. And when the talk-you-to-nenth individual gets in close proximity, let loose the hose and drown him, if you can." It has been decided to hold a handicap tourney in connection with the Adelaide Draughts Clnb. Six prizes in all are to be given, and all matches between paired players are to consist of four games. There are to be four classes and tha following are to be the handicap allowances :— First class to give second clasß draws as wins ; to give third class one game in four ; and to give fourth class a man. Second class to give third draws as wina, and fourth class one game in four. Third class to give fourth class draws as wins.
