As to the line at Belgrove, he will call for tenders as soon as he can get the survey plans completed. Regarding tbe land on the West Coast, he is going to offer every possible facility for settlement upon it — of cour6e at a fair price. " Every inducement will be given honaf.de settlers, for we must bear in mind that settlement is what we want. It is our interest to push on the work as quickly as possible. That is what lam going to do ; going to give work as far as possible to colonial men, hoping that we shall get the reflected benefit. That is the sum and substance of the policy of the company." With regard to work at the Springfield end', he is now discussing the details with Mr Napier Bell. It will take a little time to get thirx-"* straightened, " but," he said, "it is only aq . ■nof a week or 10 days before we can get ad . ■ isements out. There is a delay on account o: having to deal with matters that are more immediately pressing, but as far as I am concerned' the delay even of a day is a matter of regret, as I am most anxious to get everything out and done. lam here with the object of spending the money as quickly as we possibly can."
