RIVERSDALE.

September 2.— The usual monthly meeting of the Biversdale Athenseum Committee was held on Thursday night. Present : Messrs Gee (chairman), Lisle, Gurrie, Wright, and Munro (secretary). A communication was received from Mr Lisle, asking if the Atnenasum Committee would grant the use of their building to the Oddfellows for, say, two nights every month. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Munro, seconded by Mr Currie, that the use of the building be allowed at a rental of £3 per annum. A notice of motion was tabled to rescind a resolution passed some time ago prohibiting the as ue of works of reference to subscribers. Accounts amounting to £11 were passed for payment. Oddfelxows.— A well-attended meeting in connection with the establishment of an Oddfellows' lodge was held at the Riversdale Hotel on Saturday night : Mr Gee presiding. It was proposed by Mr B. Smith, seconded by Mr Jameß Watt, and carried unanimously — "That the secretary be instructed to make application, through the Loyal United Gore Lodge, for a dispensation to open a lodge of the M.U.1.0.0.F. at Riversdale, and that the name of the same be the Loyal Riversdate Lodge." The offer of the Athenasum Committee for the use of the building for meetings, as specified, was accepted. Dr Low (Gore) was appointed medical attendant. The tender of Mr Esther for supply of medicine was accepted. It was resolved that the lodge nights be every alternate Wednesday. Miscellaneous —The usual monthly meeting of the school committee, which should have been held on Friday night last, lapsed for want of a quorum. Surely the majority of the members did not forget to attend ?— That Captain Donald is a popular officer requires no reiteration from me— the latest proof of the assertion being the presentation made to him by the members of the Riversdale Eifle Volunteers on Tuesday night, consisting of a beautifully designed sword, " as a token of the esteem in which he is held, and in recognition of the many services rendered to the corps."
