PALMERSTON.

The ordinary meeting of the Palmeraton District High School Committee was held on Monday evenIng (writes our correspondent), and was attended by Messrs A. Gilmour (in the chair). J. Arkle, W. HobertEon, J. Kitchen, R. Steel, J, Scott, J. M'Donald. Upon the minutes of previous meeting being read, exception was taken to a clause stating that the first assistant had been exonerated from the remarks made by tho chief inspector about the absence of certain pupils from the late examination, and a r 'ference to the rough minutes was asked for. the secretary admitted there was nothing in the rough minutes to warrant th*j clause, which was then ordered to be excised fom the minutes. A letter was read from the Education Board stating that the resolutions of the committee re the inspector's report on the 3, 4, 5 ,6 clauses have been referred to Messrs Dick aud Jago to confer with the headmaster. It was resolved by the committee to take no further action until the result of Messrs Dick and Jago's conference was laid before them. A vote of thanks was unanimously pawed to Miss Lowry and her assistant (Miss Steel) for the creditable manner they passed their classes in the infant department and First Standard, and to the senior pupil teacher. Miss Porteou3, for the excellent report on the Second Standard under her charge. The meeting then adjourned.
