SOUTHLAND NOTES.
On the Queen's Birthday the I. F. Ci journeyed to Orepuki, 1 where they played and defeated, the, local men by eight points to nothing. Royds score d two tries and A. D. Thomson and Prflf, shaw one each, two of which were converted into goals. For the losew, Hirst, Crowther, Cross, and Lyons played best ; and for the winners; A. D. Thomson, W. Thompson, Twemlow, T. Watson, Royds, and Todd. ■'••- The Pirates met the Gore F.O. on the ground of the latter, when after a most lively and determined encounter the country players scored a win by «ne goal to one try. Nurse scored a try, from which Wallis easily placed, the major point ; and Mentiplay did the scoring, fpYthe, Pirates, Galbraith failing to place theeoveted goal. Hutchison,' jßpbertson, Layers, rWalUs* McLennan, and Nurse were the pick of the wu>- < nen ; and M'Robel, Pay, and Bkeosteen of the ! loser*. . , The Star v. Mataura endtd in an easy win for the former by four points to nothing.,., D. M'Robie two triei and Murphy and Cassels on* each were the Boorers. Anderson, late of the Taieri, was the, best of the losew. ,
