Notes from Mahakipawa.
(From Oue Own Correspondent.) Havelock, May 27. The past week has been quiet ia mining matters at Mahakipawa, the quantity of gold 60IJ buiug 1490z. Oue fairly sized nugget Vas obtained weighing over Boz. A report is circulated that another deep claim named the Hibernian, lower down .the valley than the Wairarapa, has bottomed on good gold, and some of the ground in the vicinity of White Fine Gully is turning out much better. There is nn doubt that Duncan's Valley .will be fairly prospected. , Claims in the Waikakaho Valley are how improving, is they, drive into the deeper ground, but it" will require, a lot of the preo.io.us npetal td recoup the oufclay most of the compahies have made for machinery, &c, <
A few men are still working in Bxagg's Valley, but no big returns have been secured. Recently the promoters of the Lizzie Mackay quartz reef have been prospecting their ground, and obtained some gold bearing stone, and some very rich quartz specimeus were shown here last week from the Enterprise, wfiich adjoins the Mahakip&wa.
