The Horse-shoe Bend Company have completed their water race, and negotiations for the construction of a Wellman dredger are about being concluded, so that with next spring this company will be in fall work. . The Big Beach Gold Mining Company are turning up geld in very satisfactory quantities, and there can now be no doubb but that this part of the district, which hitherto has been considered valueless, will turn out much gold, and employ a considerable amount of labour. MACBTOWN. The correct return from the Sunrise Company was 84oz of retorted gold from 73 tons of quartz, and there are probably 2 or 3oz to come from the unretorted silver. The lode in the mine is improving in character and increasing in width. ' • Advices from Dunedin are to the effect that some of the claims now lying idle at Macetown are likely to be taken up and worked in)-, mediately after spring sets in. UPPBB SHOTOVBE. After a good deal of difficulty Messrs Fred Evans and Son managed to hare completed their 10-head battery at their claim, the Cornubia. The event was made the occasion of a publio festival, at which the enterprising owners were commented upon in highly flatter* ing terms for the spirited manner in which they have gone to work in order to prove the value of their property. Thomas Hope and party, who are boring at the Moke Creek saddle, are making good headway now, and expect to obtain such data from their borings as will enable them to start the permanent works in connection with their claim in a short time.
