jj^y 21. — The annual meeting of the Peninsula a. and ?• Society was held at Portobello on the 18th f;.t Present: Messrs Duckmanton (in the chair), uvis Bya n » Kerr » J « Welr « Porterfield, O. Weir, tf'Aullv. Scott, and M'Gartney. The balance sheet far the past year, showing a credit balance of £22 195, tras adopted. Mr Larnacn, the president, wrote reoffice. Accepted. A letter was read from the secretary of the Otago A. and P. Association requesting this society's co-operation in the Erection of holding a grand agricultural and pastoral show in connection with the Bxhibition. ,It «a$ resolved that this society give a suitably intorlbed piece of plate of the value of £5 ss, to be called the Otago Peninsula A. and P. Society's prize, to be competed for at the Exhibition show under the auspices of the Otago A. and P. Association, the litter aißOclation to allocate the prize as they think' flfc MrW. A. Wilson wrote making a somewhat ■imilar suggestion to the foregoing resolution, and enclosing 10> 8d as a lubocription thereto, also 10s 6d to the society's funds. The ..following gentlemen ffer e elected as a managing committee for the' ensuing year: — Mr Q. Q. Russell, president; Messrs Duokmanton and John JKerr, vice-presidents ; committee men— Messrs Lewis, T. Wilson, T. Porterfield. A. North, 0. Weir, J. Weir, B. Stewart, J. Scott, J. Lockhead, B. Weir, D. Young, P. Byan, W. A Wilion, W. Argue, J.Mathieson, J. J M'Aully.B. Mitchell, W. Weir, John Kerr, J. M'Cartney, J. Seattle, , J. Fairbairn, W. Dlok, J. Grainger, A. tf'Kay. and J. Doherty. Ookorbt.— A oonoert was held in the Hooper's Inlet School on Friday last, the 17th inst,, in aid of, the building fund . Notwithstanding that the night irai not a very propitious one the building was taxed to its utmost capacity,' there being scarcely standing room for the audience. The programme was rather » long one on account of the great number of performen. It was opened by Miss Brown and Mr A. Hell rendering " Hawthorn blossoms" on the organ md violin respectively. The various performances were:— Mlsb Henderson (song), " Alton water ' ; ; JJra Partington (recitation), " A woman's question '"; Mr Wiokham, song with banjo, accompaniment; Miss Anderson (song), "The Scottish emigrant's' farewell"; Mr H. D,. Leith (reading), "Patie Pirate's Wooin'"; Mr D.,Leathle'y (song), "The mini tree, canoe"; Miss Neill . (song), , "Jessie's, dream"; Mr W. Robertson (song), "My Josephine";' Mr&. Talaroa'(song), "The parson and the clerk." Rasters De Laney, Hall, and Healey rendered 1 i«veral recitations in excellent style. Part II comprised items' by the same performers, and needs no, oomroent, AIJ the performers were greatly applauded, almost eyery item being encored. Mr j Neill accompanied several of the songs with theviolin, whloh had a very pleasing effect. After the concert was over the room was cleared for dancing, which was kept up till the small hours of the morning, young and old enjoying themselves heartily. Jfesiri Lewis, Diok, Garrick, and Wahlscot were the muiioians for the dance, and acquitted themselves v satisfactorily as usual.
