WAIHEMO COUNTY COUNCIL.
An ordinary meeting of the Waihemo County Council f held yesterday, was attended by Mr A. D. Bell (crhalnnanfc Ore J. X: Eobertson, A. M'laren. T. Dent. 3. B. Glover, D. M'Leod, O. S. Hay, ao* James Btartsfconge, jun. ■[ ■ •• FBTITIONB.' • ' Some 47 ratepayers of Macraes riding Sand others, petitioned the council with' regard to the steep grade on that part of 'the main road known as Jordan * Hill. The petitioners- stated that half-an-hour's rain would prevent teams going either up or down ; that on the road known as Ifltchener's road, with a alight deviation; a very easy grade could be obtained j and, the Boil being gritty, a block would thus be pre* vented. As the grain season was now on, the petitioners urged the necessity of calling for tenders immediately to carry dut that part of the road known, as the Saddle, and that all 'revenue accruing to the riding, or part thereof, as the council (might determine, be expended in carrying out the work on the said road, as no road was so urgently required at present in the riding.— After tome discussion farther consideration of the matter was postponed. ' Mr Bobert Matheson and other ratepayers petitioned the council to open up a road from the Green V&lloy road through Mr John Walsh's free* hold and Mr David Muir's small grazing run, to form the Horse Flat road. . Or Dekt moved—" That an offer be made to Mr Walsh for a portion of his land for a road (such sum to cover the expense of the fencing), and that the matter be referred to the chairman and the mover. The motion was seconded by Cr Hat and tarried. inspector's ekport. The Inspector of Works reported that about 400 cubic yards of maintenance gravel would be required on the Main road'i/i Green Valley riding-SOOydS from the end of Bluff road and 200 yds at Mackay'» Hill, at a cost of about £25. The west side of Sailor's Cutting was very hollow, but he had not yet, repaired it. If the road could be formed it would be a great improvement. The road below Sailor's Cutting would require two small culverts, as the water sometimes broke out of the race and overflowed the road. About 20 chains of gravel were required for Glover's road near Murray's Creek, btone Bum road was in fair order, but there were still a few pinches that would require improving to make them as good as possible. The Horse Flat road was being formed In parts with ■very good grades, and culverts large enough to carry Jstofm water, so that the parts left looked very bad. 'He would suggest that the road ' be finished, as the plans were passed and the grant was not expended. Ourrle'a road had been 't tussocked " to his house, and if five oulverts were erected and the road banked up it would serve for traffic for many years. Janoe» Fraser'i road required the expenditure of about £20 to improve it. The Nentbora road was narrow, and had to stand a deal of extra heavy traffic since the new reefs were discovered. — It was resolved that tenders be called for maintenance gravel on the mala road In Green Valley riding, and for gravelling 10 or 12 cbaine of Glover* road at a cost not to exceed £6 ; that the Horae Flat road be completed at a cost not to exceed £9 ; that tenders be called for two culverts ion Currle's road (the inspector to attend to the surfacing) ; and that tenders be called, for the improvement of Fraser'a road. . , COBBESPONDENCH.
