Draughts Items.
Boreham v. Crook. — So far 12 games out of the 20 in the draughts match between J. A. Boreham and 8. T. Crook have been finished. Mr Boreham has won 5, Mr Grook 3, and 4 have been drawn. Gore Club.— A meeting of the Gore and Gordon Chess and Draughts Committee was hold at the Oddfellows' Hall, Gore, to .select a place for the club's meetings. The price of the Oddfellows' Hall was more than the club could afford. Mr Latham had offered to make certain alterations in the hall next the Presbyterian Church, Gordon, and would let it at a moderate rent, which he named. The meeting instructed the president and secretary to secure the hall on the conditions noted. The annual meeting of the Papakaio Draughts Club was held on Wednesday, May Ist. in the small hall of the library. The funds showed a considerable surplus. During the past year there had been between 30 and 40 members, many of whom at the beginning knew nothing of draughts, though they now' could play a skilful game. The following gentlemen were elected officers for the year •— President, Mr W. Darley ; vice-president, Mr A. Beardsmore ; captain. Mr M. Willetts; secretary and treasurer. Mr M. Cameron ; committees-Messrs T. Nimrao, J. Gibson, J. M'Dowell, E. Edwards, and W.Frew ' " The Wellington Working Men's ■ Chess and Draughts Club,— A correspondent writes that the
chest and draughts club organised by the Wellington Working Men's Club at present numbers fully 50 members, by whom great interest is manifested In the tourneys now taking place to ascertain the relative playing powers' of the members. It is most probable that at least one, if not more representatives from this club will be sent to take part in the tourney to be held in Dnnedin ' during the' Exhibition.
