Draughts in England.
The second game played in the fourth round of the Bristol Mercury Correspondence Tourney, beween Messrs D. Lundie of London and R. W. Mulholland of Belfast. Notes are by Mr Mulholland. Gamb 1354—" Bristol." Lundie's move.
At this stage of the game Mr Lundie resigned. The following continuation for a draw suggested by Mr Mulholland will be found very interesting and instructive:—
a Jameß Wyllie played this against Robert Martins. b Stewart of Edinburgh played 25 22 here against Wyllie and lost. c Attacidng White's strongest point. d 31 27 would lose. c In crossbeard play I would keep the man, and play 32 27. White has several chances of winning; -however, the move in the text leaves an open game, and avoids complications. f 2419 would almost lose. ,ff Mr Lundie will insist upon me having the " man up." h To prevent 2 6, for if 2 6, then 11 7 and White •wins. tlf 22 25-29 22, 30 26, 32-28, 26 17. 23 19,17 14, 10 7j 310,19 16, la 19, 24 6, 2 9, and White draws.
