The' majority of the students enterjed were between 16 and, 24 years of age, a few being under andsome pyet these ages f( The ocoupatipns comprised .chiefly, those of , clerks, warehousemen, engineers,i grooera, drapers, carpenters, compositors, plumbers, brass-finishers,' chemists, ironmongers, draughtsmen, telegraphists, bootmakers, tailors, &c. In Mr Waddell's class some ladies had entered, and it was expeoted that more would be present next week. • Sojmany have applied for admission' to the arithmetic class that several, students had in the meantime to be refused. Arrangements haye» however, been made by the committee to provide ap assistant to Mr Montgomery^ which will make the admission of larger ' numbers and, a better classification of students ' in this "subject', possible, besides making the class more manage- , able in point of- numbers. ■ " Mr Thomson laid before the committee certain papers he had received from, the Science and Art department, London, tfrom these it appeared that the department of Science and Art is prepared, upon the application of the Colonial Government or Educational depart* tnenty or other public authority of the colony, to arrange for , the examination of the association's classes and to issue certificates and returns of awjards on the result of the examination. Messrs Fitzgerald, Thomson, and Wilson were appointed a committee , to consider the matter and to approach the Education Board on the subject.
