LAND AND WATER.

The Auckland Amateur Athletic and Bicycling Club held their nineteenth carnival at the Domain Cricket ground on Saturday, about 2000 persons being present. The races were well contested, the fields being large. The club championship (200 yds) was won by B. Owen, H. H. Davy being second, and C. Elmslie third: The principal other winners were : — Mile handicap, J. Tizard; half-mile handicap, A. R. Bailey; quarter-mile handicap, M Roberta; hurdle race, R. B. Luak ; Jadies' bracelet, H. Pollard ; one-mile bicycle handicap, E. A. Gledhill; two and three mile bicycle handicaps, T. M. Hammond. The 25-Mile Bicycle Championship of New Zealand is to be decided on Tuesday afternoon. At the Autumn meeting of the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club, held on Saturday, the 120 yds handicap and quarter-mile handicap were both won by H. M. Reeves from scratch, who reduced the records for the distances to 12sec and 52 2-ssec respectively. The other events were well contested, and the meeting was a success. The Grange Cricket Club wound up their very successful season with a smoke concert on Saturday evening at the Shades Hotel, Dowling street, when about 50 members and friends attended. The chair was occupied by MfR. G. Stone (one of the vice-presidents). A very pleasant evenidg was spent.
