LAND BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Land Board was held on Wednesday. Present : the Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland), Messrs Clark, Duncan, Dallas, Logan. Tiger Hill.— The Under-secretary wrote asking whether Messrs Pitches and the board agreed to the proposal to offer Buns 244g, 244H, and 244 j, containing 6215 acres under pastoral lincenses.— lt was decided to offer the runs together for a period of 14 years at 6d per acre ; valuation at £800.— Approved. Fixing Rentals.— The board fixed new terms and rentals as under in respect to runs surrendered, of which had been accepted by the Government as follows -.—Run 221, Moultrie (11,340 acres), price £200 ; 10 years. Run 221b, Moultrie (8928 acres), price £200 ; 14 years. Run 226, St. Bathans (14,000 acres), price £175 ; 14 years. Run 226 a, St. Bathans (13,440 acres), price £168 ; 14 years. Run 226b, St. Bathans (15,800 acreß), price £187 10b ; 14 years. Eun 226 c, St. Bathanß (8280 acres), price £103 ; 14 years. Lessees in Arbear. — The Receiver of Land Revenue reported that the following perpetual leases each owed two years' rent :— P. Harrington, seotion 50, block 111, Lauder,£2B Is; B.Harrington, section | 52. black 111, Lauder, £23 4b.— Lessees to lie informed that unless arrears are paid within a month the licences will be forfeited. Moeraki.— A memo, was received from the Undersecretary with respect to dealing with lands at Moerakiin block XIII, lately acommonage.theexpenseof keeping the same clear of rabbits being considerable. —Resolved to intimate that the unsold sections of bush reserves might be offered as two pastoral ruhs. Otepopo.— The Waitaki County Council forwarded supplementary lists of lands sold between 3lst August 1888 and 26th January 1889, and of roads on which amounts accuring are to be expended— viz., section 133 and 138, block I, Otepopo.— Approved. Tbviot.— Mr W. L. Simpson, on behalf of John Crossan, applied to purchase a small piece of Crown lundin block XXI, Teviot.' The Wardengreporting on application stated that the land was not likely to be auriferous and was fit only for grazing purpoßßß. — The board declined the application, as the land might be wanted for public purposes. Glknomabu.— Mr Thomas Chalmers applied to purchase about 20 acres of land in block X, Glenoinaru district, east of section 19, to secure road line constructed by himself. — Application approved, subject to payment of survey fees ; application to be forwarded to chief surveyor so that survey be maele along that of adjoining land. Kaitangata.— Mr W. L. Simpson asked that sections 2, 4. and 5, block 111, Kaitangata district, should be notified open for application.— Sections to be forwarded for notification at an upset of 15s per acre. Table Hill. — H. B. Flett applied to be exempted from residing on deferred-payment sections 4, 8, and 9, block VIII, and 2, 3, and 5, block X, Table Hill, the distance between the said land and his present residence being less than a mile.— Permission granted. Heriot.— With regard to an application by settlers at Heriot that the back sections in Heriot township be offered for sale for cash, Banger Hughan reported recommending that the lands be opened under the village settlement system, in areas of from two to five acres.— Government recommended accordingly ; RaDger Hughan to suggest prices. Leasing Rock.— The District Land Officer at Clyde.in reportingon an application by W. P.Forrest (for Jackson and Co.) for license over lOacres in block IX, Leaning Rock district, for raising lignite, stated that he was not aware of any objection himself, but enclosed an objection from two leaseholders in the neighbourhood stating that if the application is granted they will be compelled to throw up their leases, there not being sufficient demand for coal to warrant two pits beins; worked.— Referred to district land officer for further information. Waikouaiti Counti'.— The Waikouaiti County Council intimated that £44 18s $10d would be expended on the road leading to the runs as shown on plan deposited in the offlcH.— Road lines approved. Rook and Pillab.— The District Land Officer, reporting on an application by J, Laverty to occupy

sections 6 and 7, block VIII, Bock and Pillar district, stated that he saw no objection to Laverty leasing the land. A letter waß also received from W. Currie, applying for the same land, which adjoins his 8m all grazing run.- Consideration deferred. Kawarau.— The Warden, reporting on an application by Mr Turton (on behalf of Charles Johnston) to have sections 4, 5, 6, and 7, block 11, Kawarau district, opened under the perpetual lease system, stated that he saw no objection to the same being complied with.— Recommended for notification. The Undersecretary asked at what price it was intended to open the sections at block V, Kawarau, under the ordinary village settlement system.—Government td be recommended td notify sections 16 and 19, instead of opening the samd With others as ordinary village settlements as previously recdriv mended. Bun 206d.— J. T. Brooke Hiokson (on behalf of Thomas Henry) withdrew his application for coal license for 10 acres on Bun 206 d, under the Coal Mines Act, and substituted an application for lease of 50 acres at the same place. The Warden, in reporting upon the application, said that he saw no objection to the license being granted.— Beferred to district land officer for report. Small Grazing Run Leases.— lt was resolved that the chief commissioner be requested to give notice to the holders of small grazing run leases whom he has reason to believe are not complying with the conditions of these leases, that they must forthwith attend to the conditions on which the leases are held and comply svrictly with the provisions of the act. Brucb.— The Bruce County Council forwarded supplementary lists of roads— on which deferred payment, pastoral leases, and other moneys are to be expended— for approval.— Road lines approved. Kurow.— The Receiver Land Revenue intimated that all arrears on section 28, block VIII, Kurow, had been paid up, and suggested that the minute forfeiting the license should be rescinded.—Resolution rescinded. Southland.— The Southland County Council forwarded lists of roads on which deferred payment moneys, amounting to £23 15s 4d, are to be expended for approval.— Road lines approved. Vincent County. -The Vincent County Council forwarded plans of road lines on which it is proposed to expend £521 6s 2d. — Road lines approved. Naseby.— The Naseby Borough Council requested that sections 147 and 148, block I, Naseby, be reserved from sale and vested in the council for the purpose of forming a new road.— lf council will forward plan of road the same will be recorded. Maniototo.— Mr J. T. B. Hickson, for John Weir, renewed his application to have section 5, block IX, Maniototo, made second-class land and notified under the act. — Referred to Ranger Hughan to report. Tuapeka.— The Under-secretary also forwarded correspondence with regard to the manner in dealing with unoccupied Crown lands in block 111, Tuapeka West, and blocks II and VIII, Beaumont.— Referred to chief commissioner. Village Homestead Settlers.— The chief commissioner was instructed to notify the following village homestead special settlers that their arrears must be paid within a month from date:— J. R. Lumdden, P. Palmer, B. Stallard, E. Smith, J. ] Wilkie, H.S. M'Coll, C. Mills, and C. W. B. Crewe, of Glenomaru; P. Drennan, of Clarendon; H. T. Brown, of Lower Hawea ; j. Hamilton, of Mount Hyde ; D. Walker, of Benger ; J, J. Joyce and F. Gouch, Dunedin and Bast Taieri.
