(Pee Press Association.) Melbourne, April 3. A man entered a jeweller's shop in Bourke street, snatched up a tray containing a number of rings, valued at £800, and made his escape. Sydney, April 3. Mr J. Abbott's motion, in favour of removing the duties on butter, bacon, cheese, and kerosene, was carried last night by 55 to 51. Cardinal Moran in an address to his congregation, in referring to education, said if the majority of the population of New South Wales were satisfied with the present act and approved of the manner in which schools were conducted, it was their own business, and Catholics had no right and no wish to interfere. For his own part, he had no desire to say a word against those accepting the existing system. His Eminence said his views were merely an expression of opinion^ and were not an ex-cathedra deliverance.
