Fobtunatis.—(l) The best dressing for silk waterproof lines is a3 follows:—Two ounces purified beeswax, loz fresh mutton suet, \ pint pure boiled liußeed oil. The ingredients must be simmered together in an iron pot over a alow fire. The line should be stretched between two posts and a small portion of this preparation rubbed in with a piece of wash leather. The line must be thoroughly dried before applying. The main cause of these lines rotting is putting them away In a damp state. After each fishing trip they should be well dried. (2) The most convenient and durable varnish for lappings of hooks, &c, is made after the following recipe. It is now in use by nearly all the fishing tackle manufacturers of Great Britain and America:—Absolute alcohol 3oz, orange shellao l^oz, gum Beniamin £oz. Allow this mixture to stand for 14 days in ft warm place, ahaking occasionally. It ia then ready for use. (3) Varnish the cast over the frayed parts with varnish made aB per above recipe, but substituting white shellao for orange shellao when making the varnlflh.
