Little Scrub (7.12), Capid (66), Rifle (6.0) also ran. Whisper was favourite. A ding-dong race down the straight resulted in a victory for Whisper by a neob, Man Friday an indifferent third. Rifle fell in the race and sustained such an injury that he had to be destroyed, the jockey, Backridge, escaping with a severe shaking.
