CASUALTIES.
As a special train taking to the Tomoana (Napier) works some empty fnz'-n meat trucks was Hearing Awatoto crosling, a cart containing two men and * boy attempted to pa«s in front of the train. The cart was knocked to pieces, but its occupants were thrown clear of the train, which was afc once stopped. The three were put in a van and brought back to town for medical attendance. The doctor says no bones are broken ; but the boy i 3 the worst hurt of the three.
William Wholan, an old soldier, was found at Wanganui at midnight on the 22nd with a bullet wound through him. Hr Bays it was caused accidentally, but the police incline to the opinion that he attempted to commit suicide. Ib is not known yet whether he can recover.
John M'lntyre, one of tbe men employed at the new tunnel at Par&kanui cliffs, mot ivith a rather severe accident on Saturday morning. He was preparing the dynamite for the morning's work, when an explosion took place and M'lntyre received a compound fracture of the left arm and bruises about the legs. He was conveyed to the Dunedin Hospital, where his injuries were attended to, and he is making good progress.
