B. M'Carlhy, on behalf of William Currie, for n license to occupy 10 acres of section 2* block
2of the Coal Mines Act. Mr Currie stated that he was willing that the area applied for 6hould be taken out of small grazing run, with the view of a coal license being issued to him. — License to be issued for three years at £1 per acre, payable in advance, with license fee £1. Rent in arrears to be paid up before issue of license. Kelso.— Ranger Hughan reported on the application made by Messrs Welbrook and Grieve for permission to establish a fellmonge'-y at Kelso, recommending that the license be granted under clause 220 of the act. A letter was also received from H. Hansen, on behalf or a number of small settlers, objecting to the granting of the application, and asking the use of the reserve for their cattle. C. M'Gregor also wrote offering to pay rental for the reserve if obtained.—License granted for seven years to Welbrook and Grieve for purpose required, at an annual fee of £2 10s, with license fee £1. Wanaka.— The Chief Surveyor forwarded a report by District Surveyor Wilmot on sections in block XIV, Wanaka, with the view to their being notified under the Amendment Act of 1887.— Government recommended to notify. Mount Hyde.— Ranger Hughan recommended that the application of Thomas Thomson to surrender portion of his deferred-payment section 15, block IV, Mount Hyde district, aud to retain the portion on which his improvements are effected, be declined.— Declined accordingly. Waihemo.— Donald Murray asked for_ the grazing right on the mining reserve adjoining sections 35 and 36, block 111, Waihemo district.— Referred to chief commissioner to deal with. i Waikouaiti.— Mr W. L. Simpson, on behalf j of the proprietors of sections 71 to 74, block I, : Waikouaiti, stated that the old road line travers- | ing sections 71 and 72 of that block was of no practical use now, a new road through section 71 , having been laid off, and asked the board ho rescind their resolution of 11th September 1878, opening the old road, and that thesaroe be granted to the applicants in consideration ot the new road they are laying off between Bections 72 and 73,leadinginthesame direction; also a letter from Messrs Barnes and Gardiner agreeing to the arrangement. - Consideration deferred for a week for further information. Opjiir.— Mr W. D. Smith, on behalf of Peter Harrington, applied to have a lease issued for part of section — block — Ophir, same having been fenced iv as directed by the Land Board. — To stand over until the report of district land officer ie obtained. Maniototo.— Consideration being given to a memo of the Chief Surveyor as to the size of areas in which a biock of 1150 acres in block VI, Maniototo district, formerly part of Run 219 a, should be surveyed, it was decided that the laud in question should be surveyed into seven or eight sections, as may in the judgment of District Surveyor bo best laid off. Woodlands.— -A memo, was received from the Chief Surveyor as to the mode of dealing with section 20, block 111, Woodlands, in homestead blocks lately held by Maloney, and forfeited, the conditions not having been fulfilled, and suggesting that the section should bo balloted for between Messrs Allen andStanfield.-It was decided that Mr Stanfield should have the additional area. The Chief Surveyor, in reporting on application of Mr J. Elphinstouo to purchase an additional area of 190 acres west of his present area, recommended that the shape of his original area be altered to 400 acres, to comprise portion of new area applied for, on condition that he relinquishes the northern part of his original application, section 11.— It was decided that Mr Elphinstone be requested to state whether he will agree to his application in the form suggested by the chief surveyor. The Chief Surveyor submitted a olassincation by commissioner of surrendered runs.— Noted.
