At the same meeting there was shown a considerable divergence of opiniori'as to .what should bedone'with the few shillings collected to defray any, expenses that might le incurred. , '*<;-• ' ' Merging.— This is a question ,tl;at pas been of some local interest of late. elusion that it ia high time to ask another authoiity tb administer theirwants at a less cost, and have tho rates more' equitably ' distributed; In 'connection with this particular board, there is no outsider who can shut his eyes to the notorious expenditure of the principal part of the income for the benefit .of a small minority of ratepayers. The smaller ratepayers are now endeavouring to induce the council to abolish the board; and they have my sympathy, if that is of any use. ' • . • •
Daibt Factoby.— We were all pleased to hear that the directors of the local factory have sold their cheese at the very natisfactory price of 5d per Ib. Both shareholders and producers have Buffered long enough, and now, thanks >to the misfortune of our Australian cousins owing to the drought, speculation in the cheese market has- resulted in our local directors securing the price that' they have. Although cheese has risen in price since they sold, the course adopted was a wise one.
