Melbourne Centennial Draughts Tournament.
The following are the prize-takers, after a very keen and interesting struggle: -Ist prize, £50 (and championship), Mr James Faterson ; 2nd prize, £10, MrF. M. Brown; 3rd prize. £5, Mr J. (xallacher. The Melbourne players are naturally jubilant over the fact that they have secured all the prizes. Mr Morris of Invercarglll has achieved distinction in the Intercolonial Draughts Tournament for the championship of Australasia. Ho has been awarded the special prize for all-round p<ay, a position which many will think quite equal to that of champion. The Argus says:— "The light between Mr Morris and Mr Gallacher extended over two hours, during the greater portion of which Mr Gallacher had rather the best of the game. Mr Morris, however, played with great patience and determination, and it was only by dint of the most careful play that Mr Gallacher was able to force a win.
