THE COMING EXHIBITION.

The proposal to hold an exhibition, ho persistently advocated by the Daily Times for some time, is taking a practicable form. A powerful committee has been formed, and at its first meeting, held on Friday evening, it wasannounced that up to date guarantees had been promised for £1590. There is evidently a desire to make the exhibition intercolonial, as in that cane some firms are prepared to more than double the amount of their guarautee. After a iong discussion it was decided to float a company under "The Companies Act 18S2" for the purpose of guaranteeing tho necessary amount, the company to be called tho New Zealand Exhibition Company, with a nominal capital of £10,000 in £1 shares. The following are the guarantees promised up to date ; — Union Steam Ship Company — New Zealand £100, or if intercolonial £250; Bing, Harris, and Co. (per Mr Wilsnn), £100, or £950 if intercolonial; B. Hallenstein, £100, or £150 if intercolonial; J. Roberts, £100; R. Wilson, £100; Sargood, &on, and Ewen, £100; A. Lee Smith £100; Neill and Co., £100; T. Eempthorne, £100; Speight and Co, £100; G. B,«ll,£100; M. Joel, £5Q or £100; Watson Brothers,^; J. Mill (Port Chalmers), £50; Professor Brown £50 ; R, S. Sparrow, £50 j Graham aud Winter £50 ; H, S. Fish, £25; Dr Fitohett, £25 ; R. E. j N. Twopeny, £25 ; N. Y. A. Walee* £25 or £50 j C. R. Chapman, £25 or £50; A. Thomson, £25 ; W. L Philp, £20; C. Colclougb, £20;— total, £1590. Arrangements were made for as immediate canvass of the leading merchants and manufacturers, and the remainder of the town during the week. On Monday the followiug names were added to the committee j-^-Hon. R. - Oliver, Messrs J. B Thomson, R. Hay, W. Carlton, P. Oakden, James Wilson (Bing, Harris, and Co.;, and John Stone. The following extra guarantees hay« been promised R. Oliver, £100; Mr James Allen, M.H.R., £50 ; Mr Downie Stewart ! M.H R., £50. Total to dare, £1840. Up to the Tuesday £2965 has been guaranteed for the exhibition, of which £1000 was obtained in about an hour on Monday morning. It g nnderstood the Union S.S. Company will raise their guarantee to £500 if the exhibition is made intercolonial, and several, other firms will probably follow suit. The following names have been ad<?ed to the. committee ; — Messrs A. Maxwell, Julius Hyman, G. Esther, and S. N. Brown. The exhibition guarantee, fund ia now over

£3000, although no canvassing was done on Tuesday. Amongst the new guarantors are Messrs Dalgety and Co., £250 ; Briscoe and Co., £250; and Mrs Silk (of the Leviathan Hotel), £100. ; A largely attended meeting of the Exhibition. Committee was held in the Chamber ' of Commerce on Wednesday, when a prospeotus was adopted and a decision arrived at in favour of holding an intercolonial exhibition. The following aro the guarantees that have been received up to date:— Union Steam Ship Company, £500; Dalgety and Co., £250; Sargood, Son, and Ewen, £250; Bing, Harris, and Co., £250; Neill and Co., £250; R. Joel, £100; Mrs Silk, £100; Downie Stewart, £50; J. Allen, £50; Dr Belcher, £50 ; Watson Bros., £50 ; J. Mill, £50 ; Professor Brown, £50; R. S. Sparrow, £50; I Graham and Winter, £50; N. Y. A. Wales, £50; C. R. Chapman, £50; A. Thomson, £25; H. S. Fish, £25; Dr Fitchetfe, £25; R. E. N. Twopcny, £25; Stanford and Milne, £25; J. L. Gillies, £25 ; W. Philp, £20; C. Farquhar, Stronach, Owen, Simon M'Donald, Drs Colquhoun, Brown, Batcbelor, Hocken, and Professor Parker. At Wednesday's meeting after some discussion it was decided thnt the exhibition should be an intercolonial one, and the motion for the adoption, of the prospectus was carried.
