SANDYMOUNT.
October 19.— A concert took place on Friday, fche 19fch inst., in aid of the school prize fund. Tee chairman stated that at no time had the Sandymount School stood so high as at present. Not only was it high in the pass subjects, but also in tho class subjects. Reading had much improved, as well as arithmetic, and in the case of drawing the progress was very marked indeed. It had leapt in 1837 from 35 to 5 \ and in 1888 up to 78 per cenb. 'I he scholars showed by fche fchree-parfc musio which they sang that they must have been careful y trained. Comic songs were Bung by Messrs M'Giegor, Gant, Weipers, and Cooper. There must have baen something notoriously comic about Mr Cooper, as the audience, whom ho farly convulsed, refused to allow him to leave thestnge, ho being encored again and again. Solos were also well rende ed by Misses Jacobs, Anderson, Ferguson, und Kiddell ; and Miss Greig perlormed a most beautiful piano solo ; Mr and Miss Dick gave some favourite hiotch music on fche violin and piano; Messrs Rutherford, Kiddell, and M'Kay also sang acceptably, Mr Itiddell's "Bonnie Charlie "being particularly well executed.
