THE COAL MINERS' STRIKE,
(Pjsb Pbess Association.) Sydney, October 20. The miners arrested for taking part in the recent riot at Adamstowfi, foar miles from Newcastle, appealed against the! sentence passed by the magistrate, and the case Was heard yesterday. liis Honor acquitted the accused, and said the verdict in regard to one prisoner was directly against; the evidence and contrary to law. He recommended | the Crown prosecutor to inform the Attorneygeneral of the impropriety of trying any such eases in coal districts. October 21. The conference of delegates from mine managers and the miners has made satisfactory progress towards a settlement of matters now in dispute. The men have given way to the minimum and the masters to the maximum proposals.
