SPRING.
There is a new-born sweetness everywhere, A million bright-eyed flowers Are shyly opening to the genial air To 6ceut the sun-clofhed houis. The twittering birds have hope and joy to 1 ell, Joy summer months will briug ! The whole creation wakens to the spellDear God, send mo my Spring ! lhe violets are thedding perfume 6weet, Although their roots setm dead, And now upon the branches bare so long A faint green tint is shed. The grasses spring, and daisies smile between Where winter foods hive laiu, And must the soul that once hath winter teen J\e'er bud to life again? Thou with the lavish hand, the bounteous heart, That speaks the word " Arise ! " And from the tomb of death all Nature comes With beauty to surprise ! God of the sunbe-ims, bright the blossoms gay, List to Thy birds that sing ! Then turn and roll my soul's dark stone away — Aud bid me hail my Spring. —Alice.
