There are 93 goldmiDing companies in New Zealand, with a paid-up capital of £313,000, aud they have paid in dividends £624,000. Auckland (the Herald Rfcates) has 19 companies, the shareholders in which have paid up less than £30,000 hard cash, and have received in return over £328,000. The Reefton district has 41 companies ; amount of cash paid up, £184,671 ; paid in dividends, £243,867. Mokihinui district^ five compauies ; paid cash capital, £10,822 ; paid in dividends, £2400. Westland district, six companies; cash capital, £36,222; dividends paid, £16,360. Otago, 22 companies;- caßb paid, £52,035 ; dividends paid, £54,156. Auckland, it will be seen, has had nearly all ILo good luck among the districts.
We are informed that Messrs M'Giil and party are doing good work at Otara. They are washing out at the back of the properties of Mr Bruntou and Captain M'Farlane. The work of four men for six days shows a result of lOJoz of amalgam, equal to 4oz 14dwt 6gr to the ton. The bank value of the gold thus obtained is 76s per ounce. We learn from reliable sources that the prospact at Otara is remarkably good.
Mineral collections have been received for despatch to the New Zealand court, at Melbourne Exhibition, of Thames auriferous aud argentiferous quartz, 10 tons and 1 box of very rich specimens have been received: Reefton, auriferous quartz, 35cwt ; Wakatipu, do, 35cwt ; Naseby, do,3ocwt ; St Bathans, auriferous washrtirt, 2 tons; Greymouth, auriferous sand, 30owfc ; Westport, Mohikinui coal, 2 tons.
