LAND AND WATER

A meeting of the committee of the New Zealand Bowling Association was held in the Grand Hotel on the 2nd hist., and attended by Messrs A. Mouat (in the chair), Carlton, D. Baxter, W. Scoular, and' G. Capstick. The Qamarn and Lawrence Clubs intimated that they would be unable to, nominate any players for the inter-colonial match to be played in Melbourne. It was decided to request the secretary to again write to the various clubs in the colony and ask them to nominate players for the visit to Melbourne about November, and also nominate delegates for the New Zealand Association. The secretary brought up the draft report and balance sheet, showing the affairs of the association to bein a satisfactory condition, and it was resolved to adopt the, report and have it printed and circulated.

A London telegram states that a double sculling match took place at Saratoga, United States, for the championship of the world. Gaudaur and M'Kay were victors, defeating Teemer and Hamtn.

The match between the English Football team and the Melbourne Rugby Union, Club, under the Rugby rules, was won by the former by 9 points to 3.
