Reefton Mining Notes. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

Reefton, July 28.

The following are the battery returns for the past week: — Globe, 5200z amalgam from 190 tons (general cleaning up), the quantity of retorted gold obtained being 385ozl0dwt; Keep-it-Dark, 488oz amalgam from 200 tons (general cleaning up), the quantity of retorted gold obtained being 4290z ; Fiery Cross Extended, 180oz amalgam from 78 tons ; Progress, 1560z amalgam from 90 tons.

July 30.

Welcome. — The retorting to-day produced 1420z of gold from the recent crushing. A report is current that negotiations have been or are iikely to be opened up with view to the amalgamation of the Welcome and Homeward bound companies, but there is no definite information further.

July 31.

It is understood that the County Council here have received an offer of £1000 for the drill belonging to the county. The machine was purchased from America about five years ago and cost £2300, and has never been set up or worked, <but is understood to be in perfect order and one of the best made. Its destination is not known.
