UNSATISFIED.
A tiny stream by sweet wild flowers surrounded, Babbling and glistening in the noonday sun, Heedless alike of all o'er which it bounded,
For ever struggling on its work undone, Midst beauties fair to reach the ocean wide,
Unsatisfied. The sea-bird flying swift far o'er the ocean, Unheeding quite the storm-tossed restless sea, Flies on for ever with a ceaseless motion ;
Held captive still, yet longing to be free, Fain wou'd it wing its way to shores untried,
Unsatisfied. The miser gloating o'er his gold by candle rayless, No fire, no loving word to cheer his heart, Finds spite of wealth, dreams cheated, ever fadeless,
Which midst his gold-bags seem to have a part, A restless longing still, though fain defied,
Unsatisfied. A struggling soul, yet deemed by some unclouded, Knows well the cravings of a doubting heart, Feel 9 only that both Faith and Trust are shrouded ; What vain strange reasons ever seem to start As they too drift along Life's ceaseless tide, Unsatisfied. Shall Life be alwayi one wild restless longing? Shall stream and wild-bird never be at rest? Around the lonely miser shall come vlsioni thronging, The soul still craving joy shall it be blest ? Surely shall come the dawn when those thuß tried Best Satisfied. Oamaru, June 15. — H. T.
